Displaced by war - Sri Lanka
2009-01-04–2009-01-18
Tough battle are going on between the Sri Lankan army and LTTE. The twenty-six years long war seem to be moving towards an end, but the situation of at least 250 000 civilians who are caught in the war zone is critical. They lack supplies and protection and the risk exists that they are forced to join the rebels. Few know more, because propaganda has replaced information in the country, humanitarian organizations are operated out of the war zone and journalists frightened into silence. It is difficult to know how many people that have died in the Sri Lanka war. But according to Uppsala University Conflict Database, there were more conflict-related victims in Sri Lanka in 2008 than in any other war in the world.
