Fresh water project - Bolivia

2009-12-07

Climate Change. The melting glaciers of the Andes are creating problems for the population in La Paz and its satelite twin town El Alto. When the natural water reserves disappear, the competition for drinking water increase. Many Bolivians are forced to get their drinking water from small streams polluted by sewage and chemicals. To mitigate the problems the Swedish aid agency Sida is financing a pilot project in the remote District 7, el El Alto. New ecological toiletts and wells are built to increase the life quality for some of Bolivia's poorest inhabitants. Text by Jon pelling
