Beneath the snow-covered mountains outside Kabul lies Afghanistan’s only golf course. There are scarce spots of grass for a few weeks each year, before the heat and the sheepturn the course into a desert again. Nils Andersson from Höganäs, Sweden, practices his swing as a break from his job at a development organization. While playing, the sound of an explosion rings out from a nearby mountain. Mohammad Afzal Abdul, Afghanistan’s only professional player, calms the others: “It’s OK, they are just removing mines,” he says. Full featuretext is available. Text by Göran Engström.
