The temple of ping-pong in Mbale, Uganda, is crowded by enthusiastic youth. Mbale Tigers Table Tennis Club, supported by the Swedish International Development Agency, has a deeper goal: to cover school fees through winnings, to nourish the mind in a place away from poverty-related problems, and to build confidence in the village children. Seera Florence, 14 years old, is one of them. Her talents have brought her free school tuition and a higher standard of living. She’s now the best girl player in Uganda thanks to her eyes, focused on the white ping-pong ball.
