Nahr el Bahred refugees one year later

2008-03-27–2008-03-28

In early summer 2006 fighting broke out in the Palestian refugee camp Nahr el Bahred in northern Lebanon. When the islamist militant group Fatah Islam attacked and killed Lebanese soldiers the Lebanese army responded to the attacks. The fighting went on for months and the entire Nahr el Bahred population fled to other palestinian refugee camps, many of them to Bedawi camp. Most of the people lost all their belongings in the rubble of their houses. Today, almost a year and a half later they still live under difficult circumstances in garages, shacks and schools. But in the narrow alleys of Bedawi camp the children still manage to find joy.
