The New Land - Mexico

2008-10-06

The poor population of Mexico have reached the limit of what they can afford due to the rise of global food prices; meanwhile the government estimates that 40 percent of the Mexican population is living in poverty:- One salary is no longer enough to support a whole family. Everything has become more expensive, and the prices for food just keep on increasing, says Gregoria Pinal. The vegetable gardening in Colonia Del Mar, a neighborhood in the southern part of Mexico City, is one of the new projects launched by the commune to improve the situation for the poor in the city.Cultivation projects in cities in Mexico will give access to cheaper food, but the situation can still become worse. As the USA is the bigger receiver of exports, and the home to millions of Mexicans, the financial problems of the USA is also the financial problems of Mexico.
